How Financial Planning Works

A Step-by-Step Guide

Financial planning isn't a one-time process. It's a process that requires continual effort to maintain. But before you can start the process, it's important to have an understanding of where you are in your life and what goals you have for the future. Once you know this, it will be easier for you to take the steps needed to meet these goals.

A good financial plan is one of the best tools you can have to help you achieve your goals. Whether that means saving for retirement, buying a house, or paying off debt, it's important to be proactive and get started early.

A proper financial plan will help you set realistic goals, create a timeline for when you want to achieve those goals, and create a budget. It's a lot easier said than done, but this guide will walk you through the process of creating a financial plan.

How Financial Planning Works Wollongong

What is Financial Planning?

Managing your finances and achieving your life objectives are both possible with the help of financial planning.

Financial planning might include anything as simple as preparing for a vacation or as difficult as putting together an investment portfolio or strategizing for your golden years. Most of the time, this entails working with a certified financial planner to get personalized guidance on how to reach your financial goals faster.

Financial advisors are like doctors and personal trainers in that they can help you make informed decisions about your financial well-being. A certified financial planner will look at all aspects of your finances, including your budget, savings, and cash flow, as well as your retirement savings, taxes, and investments. They will take a long-term view. The majority of personal insurance products, as well as retirement planning can be handled by these professionals as well.

Our Process for Financial Planning

We use an extensive process in financial planning to help you achieve your goals.

Financial Planning Process Step 1

01.

Complimentary Initial Meeting

In this complimentary 45-60 minute consultation we’ll discuss your current situation and get an idea of the specific areas of advice you’re looking for and what your expectations are.

It’s important that we understand your goals, both long and short term so we can tailor our advice to your unique situation and where you want to end up.

You can request a free consultation here.

Financial Planning Process Step 2

02.

Present options with costings at second meeting

After our initial meeting, if we’ve both decided we’re a good fit working together, we’ll collect specific and relevant information from you in order to collate a personalised financial plan. There are quite a few questions to answer, but it’s not too overwhelming and the more information we have from the outset the more comprehensive your plan will be.

It’s at this second meeting that we discuss our fee structure so you know up front what to expect and there are no surprises.

Financial Planning Process Step 3

03.

With your approval, we’ll create a personalised financial plan.

Based on all the information provided in our meetings, your adviser will work on developing a financial plan just for you. This process is quite detailed and usually takes about 2 to 6 weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the strategy. When we’re just about finished we’ll get in touch to organise another meeting together.

Financial Planner Process Step 4

04.

Present your plan and answer any questions

When your plan is ready we’ll get together to present it to you and allow for a comprehensive Q&A session. This session is designed to go into the details of your plan in depth and allows for the chance to discuss all the options available to you.

It’s at this point we’ll also discuss any products that would be beneficial to complement your plan. We believe in openness and transparency so we’ll only suggest products we think will be of real value to you.
